2015 Taste of Arlington

In its 33rd year, the Taste of Arlington is looking to expand.

"This year's Taste of Arlington is going to be bigger, better, and brighter than ever," Theatre Arlington Executive Director Valerie Galloway said.

The event will feature the theme "Tastes of the American Dream City," with more than 40 vendors registered to date.

For one ticket price, attendees will get to eat and drink all they care to, while enjoying live music from the local band Inside Out. Celebrity judges will go around and taste samples from each vendor, choosing award winners in a number of categories, including best decorated booth, best entree, and healthiest creation, Galloway said. The event will also feature both a live and silent auction.

Galloway went on to say Taste of Arlington will raise funds for Theatre Arlington's education and outreach program, benefiting children who wouldn't otherwise be exposed to the arts and arts education due to financial hardship.

Taste of Arlington benefits the local economy by providing exposure to both chain and locally owned restaurants, while also bringing the community closer together to raise money for a worthy cause. Galloway said she has discovered restaurants through the event where she is now a regular. If it hadn't been for Taste of Arlington, she may have never heard of some local restaurants.

"It really stimulates that segment of business," she said.

This year's theme emphasizes Arlington new brand: "The American Dream City." According to Galloway, Theatre Arlington chose the theme to highlight the importance of the arts within the American Dream.

"We as an organization really want to spearhead the development of an arts district in our city," Galloway said.

Taste of Arlington will be held Tuesday, October 20 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Arlington Convention Center, 1200 Ballpark Way. The price is $35 per person until September 30, $40 for general admission, $60 for VIP, or $45 at the door. Parking is $5 cash. Tickets can bought in person at Theatre Arlington, YMCA of Arlington Central, YMCA of Arlington North, or YMCA of Arlington Cooper, or online at https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pe.c/10027869.
