Arlington Library Kicks Off School Year for New Kindergarten Students

Smiling and eager new Kindergarten students and their families entered the colorfully decorated "mini classroom" at Southeast branch library on Saturday, September 12, 2015 for a special school-themed event.

Brand-new backpacks in tow, the students came for a special storytime to celebrate the start of school. The families enjoyed the stories, Mom, it's my first day of kindergarten! by Hyewon Yum and Foxy by Emma Dodd which relate the excitement and worries of starting school for the child (and sometimes, also the parent).

Everyone loved watching a performance featuring a variety of animal puppets, from seals to skunks. The puppets, performing in front of the backdrop of a little yellow school bus, lead the audience through the silly song classic, "The Seals on the Bus."

This storytime gave the new students a chance to practice skills they had recently learned in Kindergarten. The children shined, happily singing the ABC song, counting along with an apple rhyme, practicing writing their names as they created name tags for their backpacks, and quickly lining up to participate in the backpack parade around the Southeast Branch.

Kindergarten Kickoff started Arlington Public Library's Second Saturday storytime series which happens on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Please check the library's calendar for more details athttp://www.arlingtonlibrary.org/calendar

We hope to see your family next time!
