Arlington ISD holding Operation Graduation Walk to Encourage Students to Re-Enroll
Keeping students in school is integral to their lifelong success as well as the continued prosperity of the Arlington community. For this reason, the Arlington ISD will host an Operation Graduation Walk Saturday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The walk is a community effort with the goal of increasing the graduation rate of Arlington high school students.
Volunteers will accompany AISD administrators to drive to the homes of students enrolled in school in spring 2015 but who have not returned to school this fall. The teams will encourage those students to come back to school, and all Arlington high schools will be open that day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to re-enroll students. Those who can't come to the schools that day will be left with enrollment packets. Volunteers will also visit the homes of at-risk students to encourage them to remain in school.
"If even a handful of students re-enroll in school because of Operation Graduation, the event has been a success," said Dropout Prevention Director Wendy Carrington. "These students need to know that both the community and the school district are behind them and care about their future."
