City of Arlington’s Elaine Dennehy Awarded Important GISP Certification

Elaine Dennehy, with the City's Community Development and Planning Department, has learned that she has been successfully awarded GISP certification by GISCI (GIS Certification Institute).

Dennehy received notification of this important designation on September 4, 2015.

GISCI (GIS Certification Institute) is a is a tax-exempt not-for-profit organization that provides the geographic information systems (GIS) professional community with an internationally-recognized, complete certification program, a GISP® Certification.

Dennehy is now one of more than 6,000 individuals with a GISP® designation located throughout the world.

Certified Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Professionals (GISPs) must have met tenure requirements in the profession and show competence and proficiency in three areas: educational achievement, professional experience and contributions to the profession.

Additionally a GISP has to have met the minimum standards for ethical conduct and professional practice, as established by GISCI, must sign and abide by the GISCI Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct and agree to follow a strict re-certification cycle inclusive of continuing education requirements.
