Construction Contract Approved for Great Southwest Parkway

Enhancing regional mobility continues to be a priority for the Arlington City Council, and that includesthe reconstruction of Great Southwest Parkway from Avenue E to Abram Street.

A contract with Jackson Construction, Ltd., of Fort Worth in the amount of $11.5 million,was approved by the City Council at the evening session on November 17, 2015.

The project includes water renewals, sanitary sewer renewals, pavement markings, traffic signs, streetlights, sidewalks and landscaping.

"Great Southwest Parkway is a vital corridor for many businesses and warehouses located within the Great Southwest Industrial District," said Keith Brooks, Engineering Operations Manager for the Department of Public Works and Transportation.

"Improvements to this roadway will provide greater service for these industries who rely on having good roads to transport their goods and services and is a very important factor for business retention in Arlington."

Construction on this project is set to begin in January 2016 and will be completed in summer 2017.

The construction of Great Southwest Parkway is part ofthe 2008 Bond Election.

This project is connected to the Arlington City Council's priority of improving regional mobility.Overall, the City will have $91 million in capital street construction in progress by early 2016.
