Arlington Public Library’s Summer Reading Club Kicks Off This Weekend

As Arlington gears up again for this year's annual Summer Reading Club, is your super hero ready?

Blasting off with the theme of super heroes, the summer long event will begin with the kick off party Saturday, May 30from 1-3 p.m. at AISD Professional Development Center, where families can dress up as their favorite super heroes to pick up their reading logs and stick around for the other fun activities to do.

Providing a chance for students of all ages to keep their minds active over the summer, the Summer Reading Club's goal is to encourage students of all ages to engage in reading daily over the summer.

The Summer Reading Club challenges students to read at least 20 minutes a day and log their times in the available reading logs.

The Summer Reading Club is scheduled to run from June 1 - July 31with multiple different activities going on weekly at participating libraries, and will end with an overall party at Globe Life Park on August 9.

Happening the night before for all the teens who participated over the summer on August 8, will be an exclusive teenager only party where there will be both swimming and other land activities to provide a chance to relax and have fun before the school year starts.

Summer Reading Club by age group:

  • Birth to 4 years: Read 10 books and complete 6 activities to get a prize pack. Each additional 10 books and 6 activities get entered in drawing for prizes.
  • K-6 - Read 5 hours and get a prize pack. Each additional 5 hours read get entered in drawing for prizes
  • 7-12 - Read 5 hours and get a prize pack. Each additional 5 hours read get entered in drawing for prizes
  • Adults - Read one hour to get a prize and an entry into a drawing for the grand prize Staycation.
  • Families that enter SRC get a family bag.
