The City of Arlington 's Housing Rehabilitation Program helps homeowners and revitalizes neighborhoods by rehabilitating sub-standard owner occupied housing. The Program is funded by federal grants received by the City of Arlington. The City allocates a portion of their Community Development Block Grant and HOME grant funding received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The Housing Rehabilitation Program assists qualified homeowners rehabilitate existing substandard conditions, bringing the home up to local standards. Applicants must own and reside in the home, and the home must be within the City limits of Arlington. The Program will fund 100% of the eligible repairs up to $24,500. Examples include: repair or replacement of electrical, heating and plumbing systems; roof, windows, doors and foundation; weatherization improvements and replacement of essential built-in appliances; and other general repairs to meet City codes.
The Housing Rehabilitation Program Assists with Emergency Repairs
The Program also assists households with emergency repairs by providing grants up to $5,000 to pay for repairs to their property. The emergency situation requiring repair must be a condition that occurred within the past 90-days, without warning, that is detrimental to or a threat to life, health or safety and requires immediate action. Examples include: repair or replacement of heating or cooling systems; electrical or plumbing systems; or roof repair.
The Housing Rehabilitation Program Assists with Housing Accessibility Modifications for Persons with Disabilities
The Program assists by providing up to $5,000 for removing architectural barriers or modifying living spaces to maximize independence in performing activities of daily living for homeowners with physical disabilities. Examples include: installation of accessibility ramps; safety rails and grab bars; widening door openings and adaption of door handles; installation of roll-in showers and non-skid flooring.
Criteria for Eligibility
Program participants ' total household income, at the time of application, must not exceed HUD 's income limits, which is 80% of the Area Median Income.
