UTA film professor Ya'Ke Smith, a rising star in independent cinema, could have another gem on his hands. His short films have been showcased at South by Southwest and other acclaimed film festivals, winning several awards in the process.

People can see his latest film "Dawn" Friday night during the new "Experience Arlington Cinema" film festival at UTA's Fine Arts Building/Film Theatre. "Dawn," which highlights a woman's struggles after she's released from prison, will start airing on HBO Sunday, Feb. 1. to a national audience.
