 Recognized for Emergency Efforts

Mayor Robert Cluck issued a proclamation at tonight's City Council meeting recognizing the Arlington Fire Department and Arlington Police Department first responders for the serious responsibilities and dangers they faced during a propane truck fire on January 2 in order to keep the community safe.

On Friday, January 2, a major accident occurred at 6000 West Interstate 20 involving an overturned 3,000-gallon propane truck, which then resulted in a dangerous fire situation that threatened highway traffic, nearby homes, and businesses.

The members of the Arlington Fire Department immediately responded and aggressively acted to secure and stabilize the incident. A burning pressurized 3,000-gallon propane tank, if not approached effectively, could have resulted in a catastrophic event.

The actions by the Arlington Fire Department prevented a potential boiling liquid explosion.

On-scene commanders and responders from both Fire and Police worked together for 28 hours to ensure the community's safety during a very hazardous material incident.

While the AFD moved aggressively to lessen the severity of the emergency, the Arlington Police Department quickly managed all traffic and security issues.

At the Emergency Operations Center, the rest of the City's departments came together with Fire and Police to support responders on the scene.
