Plans to add hotel space to Arlington's Entertainment District continue to take shape.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts is planning to launch its Aloft brand in Arlington by bringing a 136-room hotel to 2140 East Lamar Boulevard. This hotel will be less than five minutes away from AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park, Six Flags Over Texas, restaurants, and other popular tourist attractions.

Once open, the new Aloft will feature loft-like rooms, cutting -edge design and an energetic, social atmosphere-all at an affordable price point. According to its website, Aloft aims for a more modern ambience and moderate room rates designed to appeal to young adults.

"The City of Arlington is proud to partner with Starwood Hotels to introduce the popular Aloft brand to the city's Entertainment District," said Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck."We expect that Aloft willemerge as another top choice among business and leisure travelers coming to our great city."

The Arlington City Council approved the hotel plan during the Jan. 20 meeting. The hotel is expected to open in 2016.
