The Inaugural AISD Back to School Kickoff - a community effort to help 10,000 Arlington ISD students and their families prepare for the upcoming school year - will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The event will feature a short program beginning at 9 a.m. with welcome remarks from recently inducted Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Charles Haley, as well as AISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos and Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams.

At the AISD Back to School Kickoff, pre-registered students will receive a backpack filled with school supplies appropriate to their grade level. Students were also given the opportunity to register for immunizations, vision checks, dental screenings and haircuts. Students and parents can also visit the nearly 100 resource booths, and parent and student seminar videos will play inside the stadium.

"To see so many organizations and volunteers come together for the benefit of our students is truly heartwarming," Cavazos said. "I know that the backpacks, supplies and resources our students and their parents will receive at the event will help them start the school year on the right foot and having confident students translates into a successful year."

Representatives from a multitude of Arlington organizations are collaborating for this event, which is intended to maximize each organization's resources in order to reach the most students in need. More than 1,000 volunteers have signed up to help with the event, which is hosted by the Arlington ISD and co-hosted by the Arlington NAACP, Junior League of Arlington, Churches of Arlington, The Gene and Jerry Jones Family North Texas Youth Education Town, and the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Arlington Youth Foundation. The Gene and Jerry Jones Family Arlington Youth Foundation donated a $50,000 grant, as well as the use of AT&T Stadium as the event's venue, to go toward the initiative.
