Arlington Animal Services Center enjoyed a successful day at this year's Clear the Shelters event on Saturday, August 15, 2015.

A total of 97 animals found a dream home in Arlington and more than 700 people visited the shelter during the event.

During last year's inaugural event, 87 animals were adopted from Arlington Animal Shelter.

More than 300 shelters nationwide signed up to participate in the event, sponsored by NBC 5 and Telemundo 39's parent company, NBCUniversal.

According to NBC 5, North Texans cleared 11 Dallas-Fort Worth area shelters and gave more than 2,900 animals new homes this past Saturday.

Across the nation, the initiative helped find homes for more than 17,300 animals.

The City's Office of Communication also held a "Rescue Pets" picture contest on its Facebook page, inviting Arlington residents to post pictures with their rescue pets.

10 winners were selected and each one will receive an Arlington: American Dream City t-shirt in the color of their choice, red or blue.

Thank you to all of the 65 volunteers who helped Arlington Animal Services clear the shelter!
