Volunteer of the Month Kathryn Delaney

The Arlington Public Library is pleased to announce Kathryn Delaney as the September Volunteer of the Month for the Library! Kathy came to us in April of 2011 and has 581 volunteer hours and counting. She can average up to 20 hours a week and volunteers at both the Central and Northeast Branch locations.

Born in Indiana, Kathy luckily found herself in Texas in her youth and has lived in various areas all over this great state. She graduated from North Texas State College with a degree in Biology and Chemistry. Kathy retired after 21 years with OSHA as the Director of Operations for North Texas. After retirement, Kathy and her husband chose Arlington as the city they wanted to live in. The couple has five children and eight grandchildren.

Kathy has been able to enjoy all the perks that come with retirement. She volunteers regularly at the Library and for the Friends of the Arlington Public Library. She likes the flexible hours that volunteering at the library provides so that she can travel with her husband and family. The family visits Disney World annually and they frequent National Parks all over the United States, including one in Alaska-her favorite.

Kathy is very health conscious and has lost 60 lbs. while volunteering at the library! She says that shelving is great exercise. She loves hummus and treats herself to margaritas now and then.

When asked what she enjoys most about being a library volunteer she answered, "I like that I am still able to contribute to my community."

According to a library staff member, "She has such dedication with both Northeast and Central. She divides her time between the two locations. Kathy comes in with a smile on her face and is always ready for anything. She comes in extra some weeks to shelf read sections that are out of order."

Thank you for all you do Kathy!
