Trick or Treat Safety Tips for Halloween

Friday is Halloween and the Arlington Police Department has teamed up with the American Red Cross to spread safety awareness information along with treats.

This week, Arlington officers are distributing safety tips to remind trick or treaters that having fun also means making good decisions as children cross neighborhood streets and knock on doors.

The attached Trick or Treat Safety flyer was designed by Suzanne Lasater, the South District's Criminal Investigations Division Assistant. The safety tips were developed by the American Red Cross.

"Along with candy and goodies, we're distributing information to parents and kids to remind them that safety should always be first," said Officer Tim Hayden. "We want to make sure that every trick or treater returns home safe at the end of the night."

From 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, Arlington officers in the South Police District will host APD's first Trunk or Treat Event at the South Police Service Center, 1030 S.W. Green Oaks Blvd. Children are invited to search police vehicle trunks for treats and meet South District police officers. This event will also include safety games and prizes. Children can meet McGruff the Crime Dog and the Arlington Public Library will have its mobile unit on site. This event is free and open to Arlington families.
