Cultural Diversity

More than a dozen community partners came together on Saturday, October 11, to celebrate the cultural diversity of East Arlington.

The 2014 Arlington Public Library's Courtyard Celebration offered a multitude of exciting sights and sounds. A student choir from Sam Houston High School kicked off the evening with the National Anthem. Performances by local schools and community organizations resulted in an entertaining and fun experience for over 450 neighbors.

Amigos en Azul, the Arlington Hispanic Police Association, gave out free Kona Ice treats to children and directly interacted with the community. Both Bowie High School and Thornton Elementary delighted the crowds with colorful Ballet Folklorico performances. Another crowd favorite was the fierce and astounding fire-breathing Lion Dancers.

The Vietnamese Culture and Science Association were also on hand to add some extra fun by providing balloon animals and face painting. Arlington ISD showcased some of its best with music and dance performances by the Rankin Elementary Singers, the Johns Elementary Orchestra and the Thornton Elementary Step Team.

Each year, the Courtyard Celebration celebrates the rich cultural diversity of East Arlington.
