Spraying for WNV

The City of Arlington has detected a new positive West Nile Virus (WNV) mosquito sample from the following location:

The City will begin targeted ground spraying on Tuesday, October 7, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. An ultra-low volume application of Permanone RTU, an oil-based Permethrin will be used. The targeted ground spraying follows recommendations from the City of Arlington Health Authority, Tarrant County Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Vector Disease Control.

Employees and contractors have and will continue to be proactive by conducting routine trapping and larviciding in strategic locations throughout the City. Targeted ground spraying will only occur in areas where WNV positive trapping has occurred.

We are aware some residents may be outdoors working to cleanup storm debris from the recent weather incident.

Residents are strongly encouraged to follow the Four D's listed below:

  • Dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors. This is when infected mosquitoes are most active.
  • Dress in long sleeves and pants when you're outside. For extra protection, you may want to spray thin clothing with repellent
  • DEET is an ingredient to look for in your insect repellent. Follow label instructions, and always wear repellent when outdoors.
  • Drain standing water in your yard and neighborhood where mosquitoes can breed. This includes old tires, flowerpots, clogged rain gutters, etc. Mosquitoes may develop in any water stagnant for more than three or four days.
