As the temperatures start to cool, things are heating up in Arlington. From sporting events to smooth jazz, Arlington will be the place to be this weekend.

CATS Presents: Home Front

Creative Arts Theatre & School kicks off its 35th season with the one-act play Home Front, a story written by local playwright Vicki Caroline Cheatwood. This is the story of a U.S. Army family coping with the war at home during Vietnam. Parents are cautioned this play contains mature language. Opening night is Friday, October 17. Performances are Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the school's new black box theatre, 602 E. South Street. Arlington Music Hall presents: Larry Gatlin & The Blackwood Quartet

Country music legend Larry Gatlin is coming to Arlington for one night only. He is perhaps best known for teaming up with his brothers Steve and Rudy in the late 1970s, becoming one of country music most successful acts of the 1970s and 1980s. Gatlin has had a total of 33 Top 40 singles during his illustrious career. The Blackwood Quartet, legendary gospel singers, will open the show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25-$45. UTA Volleyball vs. Arkansas State

Tickets are still available to see the UT Arlington volleyball squad, one of the best in the Sun Belt Conference, take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves in a Friday night match at College Park Center. Click here to purchase tickets.

Restaurant 506 Jazz in the Courtyard

Listen to the smooth sounds of Buddy's Big Band as they perform Friday night at Restaurant 506 at The Sanford House, 506 Center Street. The show begins at 10:00 p.m. Tickets are $49 per person in advance or $59 per person at the door. This one-time event supports the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Women's Alliance.
