Senior to Senior Event

Two groups of high school students and senior citizens connected across the generations during Arlington Public Library's first Senior to Senior program on November 13, 2014. Eleven students from Pantego Christian Academy presented a live program entitled, "Remembering the Fifties" to residents of the Texas Masonic Retirement Home. Arlington Public Library coordinated the program, bringing together the performers and the audience. The Senior to Senior program is made possible by a Texas Reads grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Additional Senior to Senior programs are will be happening in the near future and will team up other groups of high school students with senior citizens at other locations. Some of the program titles are "Remembering the Home Front," "Remembering Farm Days," and more. . After the "Remembering the Fifties" presentation, the performers joined the retirees in the audience. The high school students sat down with twenty-five senior residents of the Texas Masonic Retirement Home for some one-on-one and small group conversations. The Pantego Christian Academy students were treated to stories about history from those who lived it.
