Beginning this summer, selected Arlington ISD employees interested in future campus leadership positions will participate in the Emerging Leaders Program. Raise Your Hand Texas is investing $1.3 million over three years into the program, conducted by New Leaders, a national nonprofit that develops transformational school leaders and designs effective leadership policies and practices for school systems across the country.

"The Emerging Leaders Program will better enable the AISD to realize our belief that effective teaching and leadership are essential for student achievement. The program will build leadership capacity for the district as we continue our efforts to be a premier school district," Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said. "We feel strongly that an engaged community is essential, and Raise Your Hand Texas is an important partner to help us move forward as a district."

Participants will engage in a yearlong cohort focusing on building leadership capacity in the areas of adult leadership, instructional leadership, cultural leadership and personal leadership. Individuals selected to take part in the program will have a strong belief that all students will achieve college and career success, a demonstrated ability to lead adults effectively, a proven track record of achieving student gains, and a desire to increase their impact beyond the classroom.

"We are excited to launch this partnership with the AISD as it fits perfectly with our mission of developing strong, innovative school principals and the district's bold strategic plan to empower students to reach their maximum potential," said Dr. David Anthony, CEO of Raise Your Hand Texas. "We recognize the critical role of human capital in building student achievement. Absent a higher salary structure for educators, the most powerful incentive to retain effective teachers is supportive leadership."
