National Bike Month

With spring in the air, the City of Arlington, the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) and the League of American Bicyclists, the national organization of bicyclists, announce that May is National Bike Month and Friday, May 16 is Bike to Work Day.

The City of Arlington is pleased to partner with The T for Bike to Work Day at the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) CentrePort Station. The groups will provide information on the Metro ArlingtonXpress (MAX), the TRE and the potential for using bicycles at each end of the commute to work. Bike Friendly Mid-Cities will also provide information on bicycling and bicycle repairs. Free coffee, juice, snacks and fruit will be provided to all participants at the CentrePort TRE Station from 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

"Biking to work is an efficient and fun way to get the exercise you need, without having to find extra time to work out," said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists."This year, with gasoline prices as high as they are, biking to work makes more sense than ever."

Local sponsors include:

  • BikeDFW
  • Bike Friendly Mid-Cities
  • Fort Worth Transportation Authority
  • North Central Texas Council of Governments

The following are some tips that will help you enjoy biking to work more:

  • Have your bike checked over by your local bike shop
  • Ride in the right-most lane that goes in the direction that you are traveling
  • Obey all stop signs, traffic lights and lane markings
  • Look before you change lanes or signal a turn; indicate your intention, then act
  • Be visible and predictable at all times; wear bright clothing and signal turns
