Don't forget to add "fight litter," "ride a boat," and "protect the drinking water" to your weekend to-do list. The eighth annual Lake Arlington Litter Cleanup is Saturday, March 22, from 8 a.m. to noon, and the City of Arlington is inviting you to volunteer.

This annual event will bring together five City of Arlington departments (Water, Parks, Public Works, Fire and Police), Keep Arlington Beautiful, Exelon Handley Power Plant and hundreds of volunteers. Reverse Litter will also be making an appearance this year to spread the message that most of the litter that ends up in our waterways can be easily prevented.

Staff will be shuttling volunteers across the lake by boat from Richard Simpson Park to the cleanup sites, or volunteers can canoe or kayak at their leisure. Exelon Handley Power Plant will be providing lunch for the volunteers afterwards.

Volunteers should meet at Richard Simpson Park, 6300 W Arkansas Lane in Arlington for the event. Wear layered clothing with pants and long sleeves, sunblock and insect repellent. Please consider possible poison ivy allergies before volunteering for this event. Cleanup supplies such as bags, gloves and pickers will be provided. To volunteer for this event, simply show up at Richard Simpson Park by 8 a.m. the morning of the event ready to have a great time!

Questions can be directed to the Lake Arlington Office at 817-451-6860.
