The Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $15,000 Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant to Swift Elementary for an early childhood playground. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 25, on the new playground at Swift Elementary, 1101 S. Fielder Road in Arlington.

The early childhood playground, built for pre-Kindergarten students at Swift Elementary, includes several colorful components, the largest of which has two slides. With a musical wall, small four-seat teeter, a talk tube and more, the playground is geared toward younger students and is fully wheelchair accessible.

"Having an engaged community is essential to the success of our students and schools in the Arlington ISD," Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said. "We are proud that this Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant will help our youngest students at Swift Elementary stay active in a safe environment that they can call their own."

After receiving acknowledgement of the grant in January, the Swift Elementary early childhood playground was completed earlier this month.

"The Lowe's Toolbox for Education program has benefited more than five million schoolchildren since its inception," said Maureen Ausura, chairman of the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation. "With the support of Lowe's Heroes employee volunteers, Lowe's is committed to continuing to improve the educational environment for students across the country."
