parksThe Community Garden of UT Arlington is available to new gardeners in preparation for the 2014 spring harvest.

The garden is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between University of Texas at Arlington and the City of Arlington. Organizers say the project has strengthened the University's bonds with the surrounding community while encouraging healthy, more sustainable food options.

Program Details:
Location: 406 Summit Avenue (on the UTA campus)
Availability: Several plots are currently available. Call 817-459-5484 if interested.
Cost: $35 per calendar year. The City of Arlington pays for water.
Size: Plots are approximately 16'X4′ and each gardener donates a portion of their harvest each season to Mission Arlington, therefore giving back to the community.

The garden community is made up of master gardeners as well as beginning gardeners. The half-acre garden benefits from the UT Arlington compost site and a rainwater harvesting system. A portion of harvest is donated to a local food bank. The garden is a combined effort of the UT Arlington Office of Sustainability and the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department.
