The City of Arlington is proud to announce the Office of Emergency Management recently received a national accreditation. Every year, emergency managers from across the United States evaluate various emergency management centers to see if they comply with 64 standards. Often times, municipalities partner with their respective counties to achieve the accreditation through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP), but Arlington is the sixth city in the nation to receive this accreditation on its own.
The emergency management program uses the accreditation to prove the capabilities of their disaster preparedness and response systems, which results in stronger capabilities and accountability. Accreditation is a means of demonstrating, through program assessment, documentation and onsite assessment by an independent peer review team, that a program meets national standards (see standards by clicking here). EMAP is the only accreditation process for emergency management programs. Working collaboratively since 1997, emergency management professionals from national, state, local and higher education continue to provide quality standards and a process for determining compliance. Each accreditation is valid for five years.
