Rangers’ Soto Reads to Children at Arlington Public Library

"¡Jonron!" exclaimed Texas Rangers catcher Geovany Soto as he read from fellow baseball player Alex Rodriguez's book to more than 25 eager kids who packed the Children's Area at Arlington Public Library during his bilingual storytime.

¡Jonron! is Spanish for Out of the Ballpark or what we commonly yell at a baseball game, "home run." Finding similarity in A-Rod's story, Soto - known for his creative catching style - hit a home run during Tuesday night's game.

The Rangers' Reading Club All-Star Program is partnering with 25 Texas area libraries. Only one lucky winner from each library will win special on-field VIP privileges, and meet and receive an autographed poster of Geovany Soto. All participants will receive a bookmark of the player and are invited to attend a baseball game on August 17 at Globe Life Stadium for a game against the Los Angeles Angels.

"We are so excited when someone who has the attention and respect of the children demonstrates to them the importance of reading," said Cary Siegfried, Director for Arlington Public Libraries.

Soto's appearance was part of a joint venture between and the Arlington Public Library and the Texas Rangers to encourage kids of all ages to sign up for Summer Reading Club. The program is free to enter and provides reading incentive packages for early learners, school agers, and adults.
