East Abram Street Project Set to Begin

Three major roadway reconstruction projects are scheduled for East Abram Street between Collins Street and Great Southwest Parkway. The first, from SH 360 to Great Southwest Parkway received the green light from Arlington City Council on Tuesday. Council approved the contract with RKM Utility Services, Inc. of Dallas for $8,481,419.90. The project includes the reconstruction of the existing four-lane divided roadway as a six-lane boulevard. It will also include underground drainage, water and sanitary sewer renewals, sidewalks, streetlights, and landscaping. The anticipated completion date is May 2016. The project was designed by Schrickel, Rollins and Associates, Inc. of Arlington.

A construction contract with JLB Contracting, LLC of Fort Worth for Abram Street between Stadium Drive and SH 360 will be considered by the City Council on Tuesday, June 10. JLB submitted a bid of $8,001,265.73 for this project. This segment of roadway will remain a four-lane boulevard. This project will also include underground drainage, water and sanitary sewer renewals, sidewalks, streetlights, and landscaping. The construction is expected to last until April 2016. The project was designed by Wier & Associates, Inc. of Arlington.

The third segment of Abram Street, from Collins Street to Stadium Drive, is currently scheduled to be let in Spring 2015. This project is being designed by Schrickel, Rollins and Associates, Inc. of Arlington. It will include the same type of improvements as the segment between Stadium Drive and SH 360.

"These projects will replace a roadway that is in poor condition and is very difficult for us to maintain," said David Wynn, Assistant Director, Public Works and Transportation. "It will provide much improved access to the businesses along this segment of roadway. It will also improve walkability along the corridor."
