Adoption

If you are looking to add a dog or cat to your family, the Arlington Animal Services Center (AASC) can be a great place to find your dream pet.

Since February 2012, hundreds of adorable dogs and cats have been adopted by responsible pet owners, and the number is growing. The shelter has a total annual intake of 12,000 animals, which means they need to find homes quickly.

AASC staff credit the one-year-old video "Pet of the Week" campaign for increasing the number of dogs and cats being adopted by responsible pet owners.

Since taping began in June 2013, all of the featured animals have been adopted or placed with a rescue/placement partner. One pig was returned to their owner after being lost. That's more than 100 "Pets of the Week" that have found homes in 12 months.

"The "Pet of the Week' campaign gives our community an opportunity to see our pets in a positive light," said Arlington Animals Services Manager Chris Huff. "The viewing of pets from a still photo or video footage provides a more personal experience for the views. As a result, quite a few people walk into the shelter ready to adopt after seeing the "Pet of the Week.'"

Each week videos of the animals appear on the City of Arlington's cable and YouTube channels, while stories and photos are shared on MyArlingtonTx.com and social media.
