LPGA Hopefuls Come to Arlington

The Texas Women's State Open has been a North Texas tradition from 1935 to 1955. During that time, the event was held in Fort Worth and was conducted by the Fort Worth Women`s Golf Association. The North Texas Pro Golfers Association brought back the tournament in 2001 in an effort to promote the game to more female golfers throughout the region.

Now the tournament begins a new chapter at the newly renovated Rolling Hills Country Club here in Arlington on July 8-9. This is the first time that the City of Arlington has hosted this event. The two-day tournament features 124 top golfers from two divisions (Open Division, and Senior Division) representing 10 different nations, 56 professionals, and 63 amateurs. Many of the women aspire to compete in the LPGA.

Ashley Knoll from the Woodlands, TX won the competition and the grand prize of $3,200. The 2014 Texas Women`s Open benefits SafeHaven of Tarrant County, which operates the only domestic violence shelters in Tarrant County, including one in Arlington.
