The Martin High School Ceramics III art class has organized the first-ever Empty Bowls Project event at the school, and the class will host the event as a community service project from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, in the school cafeteria.
The Empty Bowls Project, started by the nonprofit organization Imagine Render, is an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. All of the proceeds from Martin's Empty Bowls Project event will benefit the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
After a presentation from both Martin art teacher Stacy Kouba and the Tarrant Area Food Bank regarding hunger in America and Tarrant County, respectively, guests will dine on soup and bread provided by Applebee's and Olive Garden. Each attendee will then take home one of the 125 ceramic bowls created this school year by the class as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The bowls are functional ceramic ware, meaning they can be put in the dishwasher and used in a microwave.
