The Arlington Independent School District is launching a citywide initiative to engage future parents and students through a series of online instructional videos that focus on literacy, math and oral language development. Research shows that 85 percent of prekindergarten parents are online at least once a day, and this program will help equip every parent and guardian to be their child's first and most effective teacher.

Parents/guardians of children ages 0 to 4 are encouraged to sign up for the ReadyRosie program at www.readyrosie.com/arlington. They will receive a daily email with a video activity, available in both English and Spanish. The 2-minute videos model activities families can do to ensure school readiness and early literacy success.

"Early learning is key to academic success, and this program will allow us to reach future AISD parents and students years before they come to our campuses," Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said. "This initiative is part of our deliberate planning for future students and will allow us to help maximize their potential as they enter our doors."

The program is funded through the district's Texas Literacy Initiative grant, which is designed to improve school readiness and success in the areas of language and literacy for disadvantaged students birth through grade 12. The AISD was the largest district in north Texas to receive the grant.

More information about this program will be available at www.aisd.net, at AISD elementary campuses and community-based prekindergarten sites, during AISD's Parent University on Feb. 8, and at other Arlington locations in collaboration with Arlington ISD partners.
