The Arlington Fire Department training school will have the AFD flag with them as they run the Cowtown 5K as a team this Saturday. Past recruit classes and other fire departments will join AFD firefighters for the race. Arlington Firefighters Random Acts is an organization that is affiliated with a charity created by dedicated firefighters from AFD. As often as firefighters respond to calls, they also observe situations where people need a helping hand or something that will improve their quality of life.

AFD finally has their Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) program up and running and they already started receiving donations and have the funds available to assist their members in helping out with others.

About the Recruits

The new recruits in the Fire Academy are located at the Fire Training Center. They don’t work out of a station until they complete and pass recruit school. While in the fire academy, recruits lift weights every day. They start by running 3 miles at the beginning of recruit school and run 6 miles by the end of school. The class runs in cadence and stays together as a team until they finish, which has been an all time tradition.
