Six UTA programs recorded above a 3.0 GPA for the first time in school history.

UT Arlington student-athletes performed better than ever in the classroom during the fall semester, as the Mavericks' athletic department posted a school-record 3.073 grade point average for the recently completed fall semester.

"We are so proud of our student-athletes for the commitment and effort that they have put into their academics," UT Arlington Athletics Director Jim Baker said. "Academics are vital to the success of our program and to have our student-athletes excel in the classroom is a great achievement."

As a whole, the UTA athletic programs have also registered a record 3.079 overall GPA. After the fall of 2014, the Mavericks have six teams with a semester GPA above 3.0, which is well-improved over the two teams who reached that mark in the fall of 2013. Women's tennis, softball, women's basketball, men's golf, women's track and men's tennis each registered above a 3.0 GPA for the fall semester.

"It's an incredible achievement and we are so proud of the work our student-athletes put in," Associate Athletic Director for Eligibility and Certification Mishael Berger said. "This really signifies the importance that we are placing on academics and how it is crucial for the student-athletes not only to do well in their sport, but also to do well in the classroom. We have a great staff of academic advisors and they do an outstanding job of making sure that the student-athletes have the resources and support they need to be successful."

Women's tennis registered the highest mark by any Maverick program with a fall GPA of 3.676 and an overall mark of 3.621. Four UT Arlington programs registered record marks for overall GPA with the biggest improvement coming from women's basketball who bested their previous high GPA of 2.995 from the fall of 2013 with their 2014 mark of 3.218. Women's tennis, women's track and men's track also registered record marks during the fall semester.
