The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department's magazine, "Naturally Funtimes", has a new look for summer 2013. The increasingly popular publication is set to officially hit stands on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

The magazine has undergone a complete overhaul in content, layout and style. The change in vision comes in part due to the acquisition of new Marketing and Enterprise Development Coordinator Phillip Rogers, who was hired last November to lead the Funtimes redesign and manage all marketing and business development initiatives for the APRD's golf and tennis divisions.

"After a thorough re-design process that included feedback from City staff, Arlington residents and program participants, we are thrilled to have the first edition ready for viewing," Rogers said. "The revamped layout is compelling, attractive and easier to navigate, all of which should result in more engagement and a better reader experience."

The redesign of the Naturally Funtimes now includes parks and recreation feature stories, employee spotlights, Q&A sections, participant photographs and feature stories. The new and improved Naturally Funtimes magazine is currently available for download by visiting www.naturallyfun.org, or viewable on a Facebook application atwww.facebook.com/arlingtonparks.

"With the new layout, we were able to supplement additional feature content and still reduce the overall page count, avoiding any additional print costs," Rogers added. "This allowed us the space to spotlight some of our employees and program participants, which is a very rewarding experience for our marketing team. One great example is in this month's issue with the tennis feature on Dory Habenicht, a regular at the Arlington Tennis Center. She is 79 years old, still plays tennis almost daily and has been a driving force for the growth of junior tennis in Arlington. She is an inspiration to all of us and we were thrilled to be able to share her great story."

The new Arlington Parks and Recreation Department Marketing team has put an emphasis on digital communication and the redevelopment of online communication channels. "In the last few years we've seen a huge shift in how people are accessing our content. Our reports show that our online publications are being accessed ten times more frequently this year than they were the previous year," Marketing and Enterprise Development Manager Ryan Hegreness said. "Because of the increasing popularity of the guide and the importance of making our information accessible and easy to understand, we really felt the need to raise the bar with the redesign of our publications - we think the new summer 2013 layout has done just that."

Printed copies of the summer 2013 Naturally Funtimes will be available at the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department office and recreation centers, City Hall, and local libraries.
