The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual "Make a Splash" event at Hugh Smith Recreation Center and Indoor Pool Saturday, April 20, 2013, from 12-4 p.m.

Beat the heat this weekend with an open swim, water safety classes, swim lessons, games, music, and free food and drinks. Enjoy demonstrations from the MARS Swim Team, Arlington Lifeguards, and Zumba Scuba.

"With summer just around the corner, the 'Make a Splash' event is always a hit with locals and offers a great opportunity for everyone to learn about water safety," Arlington Aquatics Manager Maria Campbell said. "At this free event, kids can enjoy safe swimming and have some fun with good music, family and friends."

This fun-filled day of activities and water safety education is part of a national child-focused water safety initiative created by the USA Swimming Foundation. According to the foundation, nine people drown each day in the United States.
