City Attorney 12/2011Arlington City Attorney Jay Doegey has been elected president of the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA). Doegey was elected to IMLA's presidency after serving on its Board of Directors since 2002 and also serving as its Treasurer and as a Vice President for two years.

Other members of the City Attorney's office recognized by IMLA this year include Arlington assistant city attorney Ursula Patterson who was recently was designated as an IMLA Fellow. Ivan Bland and David Barber also renewed their designations.

To earn the IMLA Fellows designation, attorneys are required to devote a significant portion of their practice in municipal law during the past five years, pass a rigorous written examination, and write an article on a municipal law topic which appears in a municipal law publication.

With ten IMLA Fellows, the City of Arlington's City Attorney's office holds the distinction of having the highest number of IMLA Fellow designees of any municipality in the United States and Canada.

Doegey says, "The high number of Arlington City Attorney's office IMLA Fellows is a reflection of just how dedicated these public servants are to the City of Arlington."

Assistant city attorney Jeanene McIntyre was also recently honored by the IMLA as the recipient of the prestigious Joseph Mulligan Award for outstanding public service by a local government attorney. Ms. McIntyre was principal legal counsel for the City of Arlington for a number of major projects, such as the negotiation, acquisition, and construction of both the Rangers' Ballpark in Arlington and Cowboys Stadium, Texas Rangers bankruptcy, city and downtown redevelopment, Super Bowl, and the NBA All-Star Game committees.

The attorneys honored by the IMLA were recognized by special proclamation during the City of Arlington's council meeting on Tuesday, December 13.
