The Arlington Tennis Center is undergoing a $1.1 million clubhouse renovation and restroom expansion to better serve its patrons.
The City-owned center, located in south Arlington at 500 W. Mayfield Road, has always been a high-use facility regularly hosting events ranging in 200 to 400 players, leagues, and classes. The main goal of the renovations, expected to be complete by late September, is to expand the men’s and women’s restroom facilities. The improvements will include baby changing stations in both restrooms, new flooring and shower units, a new lavatory with full-width mirror and purse ledge in the women’s restroom, and an increase to four urinals and four toilets in the men’s restroom and nine toilets in the women’s restroom. Other renovations include new flooring, storage and merchandise displays in the Pro Shop and replacement of the center’s HVAC, exterior trim, and sanitary sewer system.
These renovations, which began in May, are not impacting the 20 lighted outdoor tennis courts, eight lighted outdoor pickleball courts, or any programming. A temporary structure onsite is currently housing clubhouse operations and public restrooms.
The Arlington City Council approved a construction contract with Morales Construction Services, Inc., an MWBE firm from Mansfield, in March 2024, and a professional services contract for the renovation work with LBL Architects, Inc., of Arlington, in June 2023. Morales Construction Services agreed to meet the 18.26% goal for MWBE participation in the project set by the City’s Office of Business Diversity.
