On Monday, January 30, 2023, at approximately 8:44 p.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to the eastbound lanes of I-20 near the Green Oaks Boulevard entrance ramp to investigate a single-vehicle rollover crash.

Witnesses told officers a black 1997 Toyota 4Runner appeared to lose control as it was crossing the Green Oaks Blvd overpass, slid into the guardrail, went airborne, and rolled down an embankment. The driver, a 45-year-old man, was ejected from the SUV.

He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.

Investigators believe the driver was traveling at unsafe speeds for the slick conditions that existed on the roadways. They do not believe he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.

The Arlington Police Department urges residents to stay home if they do not need to be on the roadways during this winter weather event. If travel is necessary, drivers should adjust to road conditions by significantly reducing their speed, leaving additional space between their vehicle and the vehicle in front of them, and accelerating and braking slowly.
