2023 Sheri Capehart Animal Essay Contest Kicks Off November 29

It is time for students across The American Dream City to begin composing an original essay to submit in the annual Sheri Capehart Animal Essay Contest!

The contest, in its 22nd year, begins Tuesday, November 29, 2022, and is open to all students residing in Arlington city limits in third, fourth, fifth or sixth grade who attend public, private or home school.

Essay entries will be accepted beginning Monday, January 9, 2023, through Friday, January 13, 2023, at 5 p.m. One essay entry per student. Previous winners are ineligible.

Essay Topics:

Grade 3: If you could make up a holiday for animals, what holiday would it be and how would you celebrate it?

Grade 4: How do you think animals communicate with people?

Grade 5: If you could make one rule for the world to follow about animals and everyone had to follow it…. what would that rule be?

Grade 6: In 2060 how will animal shelters be different than they are today?

Essay entries may be submitted beginning on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, and ending at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023. No hand-delivered entries accepted after 5 p.m. on the final day of the contest.

A first, second and third place winner will be selected from each of the four grade levels listed above. Each winner will receive a Kindle Fire HD compliments of Spring Creek Barbeque and the City of Arlington. Winners will also receive a $100 savings account compliments of EECU, Spring Creek Barbeque and the City of Arlington.
