Don't let the stress of Thanksgiving dinner get to you. In the latest episode of Arlington Eats, host Cynthia Lemus learns how to cook a turkey at home with a homemade recipe from a Kansas City family.

UTA Marketing Professor, William Venable, has a passion for barbecue. He has competed in several tournaments taking first place in the American Royal World Series of Barbecue in 1989. He also co-wrote three BBQ books: “The How to & Where to of Kansas City Barbecue”, “Absolute Barbecue” and “The Passion of Barbecue.”

“Grilling and smoking have been a big part of my life, ever since my grandfather bought me a rotisserie grill when was 7 years old," said Professor Venable.

His favorite recipes are homemade recipes that he learned from his grandmother.

“All barbeque is inherently good," affirmed Professor Venable. “You don’t need to be a professional chef to come up with a great recipe, just blend your favorite spices with your favorite meats and you’re good to go."

For the Holidays he is the official chef at his house. His family loves his cooking. Since he and his wife moved to Arlington, they developed a passion for helping others and he has cooked for several community events. He said that Thanksgiving is a time to give back to the people we love and to our community, that is why he enjoys cooking for his loved ones.

“People seem to be in a rush all the time, so Thanksgiving provides us with a time to sit back and relax with our family and friends."
