Rental Assistance

The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 provided emergency rental assistance for households economically impacted by COVID-19. The City of Arlington received a portion of the available funds, and the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) was created as a temporary program. These funds were used to pay for rental and utility assistance, and other expenses related to housing to prevent Arlington families from being evicted.

The City of Arlington is extremely pleased to have assisted over 1,800 Arlington families during these challenging times, which also resulted in benefitting many of our area landlords as well.

Arlington received over $26 million and has expended or committed nearly all funding and all assisted households will be responsible for their own rent and utilities on or before Aug. 31, 2022.

At this time, the City has not been notified of any additional funding coming to Arlington or the surrounding areas, however, if additional funds are received, they will be used to assist families who remain on the waiting list and have not yet been assisted.

Residents can continue to be assisted with resources for food and employment by reaching out to The Housing Navigator at [email protected] or the Arlington Envision Center at [email protected] or by contacting the United Way helpline by calling 2-1-1.

In addition to the City of Arlington’s award of funds, the City of Fort Worth and Tarrant County also received allocations of funding through the Treasury.

The City of Fort Worth is currently processing as many applications that were submitted before their March 31, 2022, deadline as possible. However, not all applications submitted before the deadline will be processed due to having more applications than funding. The city encourages all applicants to look into other resources throughout the county.

Tarrant County’s Emergency Rental Assistance closed to new applicants on April 30, 2022. The county is still working through all applications submitted before that deadline, and assistance is still being awarded to qualified households.
