On the next great adventure of Explore Arlington, Mayor Jim Ross takes his cues from talented performers of Sister Act presented at Theatre Arlington.

For 49 years, Theatre Arlington, located in the heart of Arlington at 305 W. Main St, in the Downtown Cultural Arts District, has provided the community with high-quality, award-winning theatrical productions to more than 30,000 patrons each season, while running a year-round theater school and outreach programs for at-risk youth.

Theatre Arlington unveils its $3.5 million renovations Friday, Mar. 25, 2022 with the opening of “Sister Act.” The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation awarded Theatre Arlington a $2 million capital project grant. This grant provided the opportunity to renovate and improve the theater building. Since 2007, the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation has awarded nearly $38 million to the great city of Arlington to keep it thriving by supporting the causes which benefit the citizens and enhance the natural surroundings and lifestyle of the city.

“This is exciting,” Ross said. “There’s such a thrill to have Theatre Arlington back after nearly two years. Coming in here seeing the chances that have been done is thrilling.”

Theatre Arlington’s renovation project will include major changes to the theater building lobby and entry, including a new ticket counter and service bar, a donor wall, art and marquee. The lobby will be expanded to the east and the house will receive new seating and stairs. Technical upgrades and equipment for productions will include new light board and circuitry, intelligent LED Lighting, and a newly thought-out lighting grid. Sound equipment, computer software, sound board and stationary microphones will be included. Computer monitors, video projectors, and cameras for streaming will be added to the newly positioned technical booth, as well as new electrical distribution throughout the main panels.

“Sister Act” is the feel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jumping to their feet. Featuring original music by Tony – and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The show runs until Saturday, Apr. 16, 2022. To receive more information on the production at Theatre Arlington or ticket prices, click here
