The Arlington Police Department has made an arrest in the shooting death of 24-year-old Jayde Bell-Louis, who was found deceased inside her East Arlington apartment on November 29, 2021.

29-year-old Tanavian Smith has been charged with one count of Murder in connection to the case. He is currently being held at the Fort Bend County Jail, outside of Houston, where he was taken into custody earlier this month on unrelated charges.

“This arrest is the result of a very thorough and relentless investigation by our homicide detectives,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “I’m incredibly proud of the work they’ve done to remove a dangerous criminal from our streets and to provide justice to Ms. Bell-Louis’ family. We cannot and will not tolerate this kind of violence in our community.”

The department would also like to thank local news media for their continued partnership. Key witnesses in this case came forward with information after seeing media reports.

 ORIGINAL RELEASE

On Tuesday, November 29, 2021, at approximately 3:57 a.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Nandina Drive after a resident who was leaving for work reported seeing a neighbor’s door open. As officers approached the apartment to do a welfare check, they could see the front door was damaged as though someone had forced their way inside. The officers then entered the apartment to check for anyone who needed assistance.

During their search, they found an unresponsive adult female with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced deceased at the scene and her death is being investigated as a homicide.

No one else was inside the apartment and there were no earlier reports of shots fired at the complex.

Detectives have spent the morning canvassing the area, looking for potential witnesses and surveillance video. The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Detective Holly at 817-459-5935. Tipsters can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County at (817) 469-8477.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once the next of kin have been notified.
