A new resource is available for Arlington business owners to help with commercial property maintenance. The new Commercial Rapid Reference Guide accompanies the newest initiative by Code Compliance to improve the attractiveness of major commercial corridors and thoroughfares in Arlington.

In September 2021, Council approved a position for a code officer specifically dedicated to working in partnership with commercial properties. The assigned officer partners with the business community offering guidance to help gain and maintain property compliance while making the community more safe and visually appealing.

The new commercial site was launched to provide business owners/managers a comprehensive guide with links to City Ordinances about keeping Arlington litter-free, landscaping, parking lot and sign standards, screening/fencing, and more.

“Improving aesthetics and safety in major commercial corridors is the goal of the new commercial inspections initiative,” said Neal Lucas, Code Compliance field operations manager. “This initiative combined with the new commercial reference guide provides business owners and managers information to help achieve and sustain essential property standards.”

Addition of the commercial guide complements the rapid reference guides for single-family residential and multi-family residential properties. Code Compliance provides educational information with a couple of clicks.

Development of these web pages and the commercial corridor initiative helps support these City Council Priorities: Put Technology to Work, Champion Great Neighborhoods, and Invest in Our Economy.
