The Arlington Police Department, along with detectives assigned to the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force, arrested 18-year-old Cameron Lavon Stephens without incident overnight.

He was located at a convenience store in the 2700 block of Haverwood Lane in Dallas. Stephens was booked into the Arlington City Jail on one count of Murder. 

"We are grateful for the quick actions of our detectives based upon information provided by our community to arrest the person responsible for this incident," said Al Jones, Chief of Police.

The Arlington Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred outside Hurricane Harbor, which is located in the 1800 block of E. Lamar Blvd.

At approximately 7:03 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, an off-duty Arlington Police Officer working a part-time security job at the park heard the sound of car horns coming from the parking lot and walked out of the front gate to investigate. At that time, he saw a group of six to eight individuals, which appeared to be involved in a physical fight. As he began to move towards the group to break the fight up, he heard the sound of a gunshot and then saw a 16-year-old male teen lying on the ground.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Officers detained multiple individuals at the scene. Investigators are currently working to determine if they had any involvement in the shooting. At this time, no one has been arrested or charged in connection to this incident and it remains under investigation.

The Arlington Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has any information about this case to come forward and report it to Detective Simmons 817-459-5735. Tipsters can also remain anonymous by contacting Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin has been notified.
