The City of Arlington puts technology to work every day to make The American Dream City a better place to live, learn, work and play. This continues to be evident during the coronavirus pandemic, where the City has tapped video conferencing, social media and other technology to keep residents connected to community meetings, public meetings, programs and services from the safety of their homes.

In this edition of the quarterly Put Technology to Work newsletter, you can learn more about Arlington’s first-ever virtual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Advancing the Dream” Celebration as well as the Arlington Municipal Court’s new online virtual court services, which allows residents to ask questions and learn how to handle violations without appearing in court in person. You can also read more about how Arlington Animal Services is making it easier for people to donate gifts to shelter animals directly from their smartphones and how the City’s Office of Communication won a Lone Star Regional Emmy for its video explaining the FY2020 Operating Budget to residents and community stakeholders.

All quarterly City Council priority newsletters are now produced in a digital formal, allowing for layers of additional video content and important links.

The Arlington City Council has identified “Put Technology to Work” as one of five priorities. Technology is an essential aspect of daily life and has quite the impact on our organization, residents, visitors and businesses. It is also integral in achieving the City’s other priorities: Invest in Our Economy, Support Youth and Families, Enhance Regional Mobility and Champion Great Neighborhoods.
