Celebrate the Holidays with Arlington Public Library

The holidays are right around the corner and though they will look a lot different this year, the Arlington Public Library continues to offer residents services and programs to make the best out of this festive season.

Don’t have a library card? Give your entire family the gift of knowledge by applying for a library card here.

Want to send a letter to our Library elves? Want to participate in socially distanced art classes? Interested in our librarians finding books just for you? We can help! Learn more about all our contactless, virtual, and socially distanced services and events below.

Library Services

Curbside Pick Up

  • Items will be available to pick up from all locations in touchless transactions.
  • Place an item on hold through arlingtonlibrary.org
  • When your items are ready, we will notify you by email, phone, or text message, depending on your account preference.
  • Drive to the library and park in the designated curbside pick up parking lane.
  • Call (817) 459-6900 to let library staff know you are there to pick up your items. We will ask for your Library card number so that your book can be checked out. Provide staff with the make, model, and color of your car.
  • Library staff will place your items on a designated table, then stand at the door of the building and watch while you pick up your items.

Digital Content

Did you know you can read eBooks, listen to online Audiobooks, and browse through magazines on your smartphone, laptop, or desktop computer, in addition to an eReader? We also have digital comics, read-along eBooks, and educational videos for our younger audience, all with no associated fines or fees.

  • Overdrive has a large selection of popular eBooks, comics, and eAudiobooks. Use with a wide variety of e-readers (including Kindle), portable devices (including Android and iPhones), PCs, and Macs.

A variety of databases are available at no cost. These offer training in the arts, music, allow you to explore your genealogy, and even learn a new language.

Programming Services

Letter to the North Pole

Send a letter to our Library elves. Use the questions on this online form to write to the library elves about what you want to read, and they will put a book on hold just for you! When you receive the text or email that you have a book on hold, you can go to your location and pick up the book inside or through curbside pick-up. For the elves to make sure to read your letter you must submit it by Dec. 15.

Readers Advisory: What Should I Check Out Next?

Not sure what your next read, listen to, or watch? Give us a little info about what you like and our librarians will place a recommendation on hold for you. Please allow 3 business days for a response, not including weekends and holiday closures.

Holidays at the Makerspace

The Makerspace will be having festive classes for the upcoming holiday season. Be sure to register today! We will be offering free kits with all sorts of crafts for patrons to enjoy from home. We will also offer awesome virtual programming for all ages including instructional videos for fun crafts, classes led by talented artists, and children’s storytimes.

Art is for Everyone: Free Virtual and In-Person Art Classes

In December, Amy will be teaching the community how to make sculptures, accessories, and more through a variety of free virtual and in-person classes. Classes will be held at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library. Social distancing will be enforced and masks required per the Tarrant County Mask Mandate.

Virtual Mayor’s Holiday PJ Storytime

Celebrate the holidays with Mayor Jeff Williams at a special virtual pajama storytime!
Families are encouraged to wear their favorite PJs and can enjoy a classic holiday story and festive songs geared for preschool-aged children. Traditionally an in-person event, this year's storytime will be available on our Facebook page Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m.
