The 2020 Holiday Grease Roundup is in cooperation with the Wastewater and Treatment Education Roundtable, North Central Texas Council of Governments, and other area cities.

Arlington residents can protect their home plumbing and prevent sewer backups by recycling used cooking oil at two locations this holiday season. The 2020 Holiday Grease Roundup is in cooperation with the Wastewater and Treatment Education Roundtable, North Central Texas Council of Governments, and other area cities.

Here’s how to participate:

• Drop off used cooking oil in receptacles at Vandergriff Park, 2800 S. Center St. or the Trinity River Authority’s will Arlington office at 5300 S. Collins St. The receptacles from American BioSource will be available from Nov. 23 through Jan. 4. American BioSource recycles used cooking oil to make biodiesel fuel.

• Residents who have more than five gallons of used cooking oil to recycle can also request pick up at their home by calling Arlington Water Utilities at 817-459-5902 during the Holiday Grease Roundup.

By collecting and recycling this used cooking oil and grease, residents are preventing these products from clogging pipes in their home. Fats, oil and grease that harden in Arlington’s sanitary sewer system can also cause blockages that can result in sanitary sewer overflows into homes, streets and local waterways.
