Leaf recycling returns in November

The Solid Waste and Recycling division is busy scheduling recycling events in the upcoming months. Find out more about these events and more by connecting with us on social media and bookmarking our website at www.arlingtontx.gov. Please note that events are subject to change as COVID-19 guidelines are updated and announced on the City’s social media and website.

Computer Roundup

The Computer Roundup is an annual electronics recycling event for residents of the City of Arlington. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 14 at the UTA parking lot off Cooper Street between Doug Russell Road and Mitchell Street. Arlington residents may bring old computers, printers, smart pads, cell phones and other small household electronics for recycling. No appliances or televisions please. Arlington residents only. No businesses. For a full list of accepted materials, please visit our website at www.arlingtontx.gov/recycle and click the Computer Roundup icon.

Residents are asked to wear masks and remain in their vehicles for the safety of event staff. Please place all electronics in your trunk or the back of your pickup truck for safe and easy unloading by event staff. Last year Arlington residents recycled more than 56,000 lbs. of electronics at the Computer Roundup.

Fall Leaf Recycling

From Nov. 13 through Jan. 15, 2021, Arlington residents will be able to utilize several drop off locations throughout the city to take their leaves for recycling. This year, the City is providing five additional drop-off sites throughout our community for a total of eight drop-off locations. Leaves collected from the drop-off locations are diverted from the Arlington landfill and recycled at the landfill’s mulching operation. This mulch is made available free of charge (based on availability) to Arlington residents. Please call the Arlington landfill’s office at 817-354-2300 to check available mulch supply.

Last year, Arlington residents recycled approximately 300 tons of leaves through this program. This program is for residents of Arlington only. Contractors may not drop off at these collection sites. However, if a resident uses a contractor to collect their leaves, the contractor may take the bagged leaves to the landfill free of charge during this time. Contractors will need to debag leaves in plastic, non-compostable bags.

Residents can still place bagged leaves at the curb for collection on scheduled trash collection days. Leaves collected curbside will not be recycled as they are comingled with regular household trash and taken to the landfill. Leaves placed curbside will be collected at a rate of one cubic yard (about the size of an office desk) per service day until everything has been collected.

For questions regarding these events, please call the City’s Action Center hotline at 817-459-6777 or email us at [email protected].
