The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made a significant food donation to both Arlington Charities and Arlington Urban Ministries on Wednesday to help both nonprofits provide pantry staples to residents who are struggling financially during the coronavirus pandemic.

Founded in 1830, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints assists with Humanitarian efforts throughout the world. Their mission is to offer relief, foster self-reliance, and provide opportunities for service. Members from the church have worked extensively with both nonprofits and have seen firsthand the impact both nonprofits have on the Arlington community. Staff and volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and JustServe assisted with unloading and moving the supplies into the Arlington Charities pantry on Wednesday morning.

“Arlington Charities is a wonderful organization that helps to fight hunger and poverty. We are so grateful for the relief and hope they bring in helping to provide basic needs for individuals and families in our community. Local members of the church have been privileged to partner with them in simple ways through service and resources,” said Volunteer and Arlington Stake President Mark Davies. “Caring for those in need is a priority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We are grateful to provide food at this time to assist Arlington Charities in their great cause.”

Arlington Charities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping to stabilize families, individuals and the homeless by helping them cover their most basic needs. Incorporated in 1979, the charity is currently the largest food pantry in the city. It specializes in food, clothing, hygiene items, utility assistance, financial literacy and nutrition education, holiday programs, case management, and information and referral services.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Arlington Charities has been assisting up to 200 families per day, which is more than triple their normal output. “Arlington Charities is incredibly excited to receive such a monumental gift from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” said Executive Director Deborah Coppola. “This gift will make a huge impact on helping our community.”
