Fall gardening classes sponsored by Arlington Water Utilities, the Arlington Public Library and Tarrant Regional Water District will all be conducted in an online format this fall due to continued social distancing measures. Some of the classes, which were advertised in an August city services bill insert, were originally scheduled to be held in-person at library locations.

As part of the switch to virtual classes, Arlington residents will have an added opportunity to purchase a rain barrel for their home in October.

Classes scheduled for in person that will now be virtual include:

• Gardening for Pollinators - Tuesday, Sept. 22, 6:30 p.m.

• Pots in Small Spots: Container Gardening – Wednesday, Nov. 4, 6:30 p.m.

A registration link for both classes will be posted soon on the events tab at www.SaveTarrantWater.com.

A Rainwater Harvesting and Low Water Use Landscaping class originally scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6 has been canceled. In its place, Arlington residents are invited to take part in a virtual class from Texas A&M AgriLife Water University called Saving FROM a Rainy Day: DIY Rain Barrel Class on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. Registration for that class is available at this link. The online class is free.

In addition, Arlington residents can purchase a rain barrel from Water University and pick it up the morning of Saturday, Oct. 24 in the parking lot of the Southwest Branch of the Arlington Public Library. The first 25 residents to purchase a rain barrel will receive a $25 rebate from Arlington Water Utilities and Tarrant Regional Water District. To purchase a rain barrel, visit this link.

Tarrant Regional Water District and the Tarrant County Master Gardeners Association present classes for Arlington each year as part of their Learn and Grow education program for cities served by the district. If you will be unable to attend these virtual classes, videos of the classes or others like them will be available online at the Save Tarrant Water and Water University YouTube sites.
